• Broken Bodies was an exhibition of contemporary works based on research led by Dr Jennifer Ayton from the University of Tasmania (UTAS) School of Medicine (Public Health). The Broken Bodies project reinterpreted over 120 Tasmanian mothers' narratives collected as part of the TAS Infant Feeding Study (2012), through expressive art forms each responding to the women’s powerful experiences and sense of loss around feeding their babies. The conceptual works were developed in a variety of mediums including sound, performance, installation, video, music, sculpture and ceramics, and were installed in combination with selections of narratives gathered during the study.

Broken Bodies represents Dr Ayton's desire to return the research to the community via the commissioned works and curated exhibition. It was a collaboration with the UTas School of Creative Arts and Media, The Plimsoll Gallery, local and interstate artists, and the Institute for the UTas Institute for Social Change (School of Social Sciences). It was co-curated by Jennifer Ayton and Eliza Burke with partnership development by Lucy Bleach.
